4 Simple Tips For Relieving Chronic Back Pain

By James Kupe

Chronic lower back pain is a common condition many people are faced with today. There are many reasons as to why this problem can develop; causes may include improper posture while sitting, weak muscle strength, or as a byproduct of disease.

If you are like most people, your back pain is not just going to go away on it's own, so you'll have to consider getting some form of treatment before it gets worse or even becomes permanent. Here are 4 simple tips that should help you to get some relief from back pain.

Tip #1: Start Taking Yoga Classes

Yoga, or any exercise that focuses on stretching the lower back, is one of the best kinds of therapies for back pain. This type of exercise stretches and relaxes the muscles supporting the spine. Yoga techniques that focus on the core are also beneficial for your back. The best yoga poses to perform include the supine spinal twist and pelvic twist.

Tip #2: Focus On Your Posture Regularly

Bad posture is one of the leading cause of chronic lower back pain in both men and women. The problem is that for every second you're sitting in a way that isn't supportive for your back, you are increasing the chances of you suffering from serious back pain.

By making a small adjustment to the way you sit, you'll greatly reduce your back pain and decrease the chances of it reoccurring. Sit up straight with your head held high. When at your computer, make it so the monitor is at eye level if possible.

Tip #3: Consider Using A Chiropractor

The role of chiropractors is to help relieve back pain by making spinal adjustments that realign your back. They use a technique called spinal manipulation to force joints past their point of settlement. This works for many people to reduce pain, restore the body's ability to recover naturally, and improve the patient's normal range of motion.

It will also reduce the chances of chronic pain becoming a life long problem. Treatment can take anywhere from three to ten weeks depending on the severity of your back problems.

Tip #4: Get A Physical Therapist

Although your body generally requires rest for healing, when you are trying to repair muscles you must usually include some form of exercise as well. It's important that you don't overexert yourself during this process, but not doing enough physical activity is going to slow down or hamper your recovery. A good physical therapist will know exactly which exercise should be helpful for people with lower back pain. Your therapist will be able to create a recovery plan designed to fit your injuries and other personal needs.

Generally, you'll start by strengthening and stretching the back muscles first. After that there will be a good combination of exercises such as light yoga, Pilates, tai chi, walking, swimming, and weight lifting.

By following these 4 tips, you should be able to achieve some relief from chronic lower back pain in a short period of time. If you stick with your treatment program, you might be surprised at how quickly you can start to see a noticeable reduction in your pain.
